Highrock Moss

This is a little painting I did during this past winter
en plein air. Clambering around on old worn rock
outcroppings, covered here and there with moss,
always reminds me of what will
endure here on "mother earth" despite us.
Oil on board 6 x 6.
Comments always welcomed.

New Mexico Thunderhead

This towering thunderhead will bring much needed rain to the high desert of New Mexico. There is really no more awesome sight than these amazing castles in the sky.

Have you ever taken a long look down a supermarket aisle, with its overwhelming display of household products? Each day, it seems that one more bathroom cleaner, detergent, or air freshener has been added to the already burgeoning store shelves. Sooner or later, the chemicals and toxins in these products end up in the environment - in our water, in the air that we breathe, and the food that we eat.
Thankfully, there are many natural alternatives that can be used. One of my favorite air fresheners is dried lavender flowers. Freshly-cut lavender can be hung upside down until dry; this will allow the flowers to keep their wonderful scent. They can then be used as potpourri, in a room, a drawer, or underneath a pillow for a relaxing night's sleep!

Their graceful return every year always reminds me of this poem by Emily Dickenson:
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without words
And never stops - at all.

Heat - Carol Chretien

This painting is oil on canvas and was painted with my love of still life when I was a frequent contributor to Wet Canvas. I set up the still life as an exercise.
It was gifted to a good friend who admired it.
I had a good time shopping for the peppers ...what color in the produce aisle!

Las Huertas Grapes

Grapes made into wine are a source of pleasure, from the growing, harvesting, aging and finally drinking. My brother-in-law, Paul Fish has a vineyard in New Mexico which is the inspiration for many of my grape paintings. Paul is the husband of Green Palette artist Patrice Schooley, my sister.

Where the Crows Gather....Carol Chretien

Plant a tree...renew your resources. That is something that we can do.
This painting is one of my favorite trees in my town. It lives at the edge of the woods and looks as dead as can be until Spring. That in itself is pretty renewing.
I think of it as an old sentinel standing guard at what is left of dwindling open space but thankfully our town does have a fair share that is open.
If you like the painting you can check it out on Ebay at the buy now price as listed.
a portion to help homeless animals is dedicated to rescue from every piece of my artwork sold.

Family Ties

Family Ties
by Janette Slack
20" X 24"; Watercolor
During the month of May, nesting Canada Geese are a common sight. It's great fun to wander around ponds and lakes, observing the females with their hatchlings from a distance.
Canada Geese are renowned for having close-knit families; the young usually remain with their parents until the following spring. After they are only a few days old, the goslings perform a "triumph" ceremony, involving honking, head-bobbing, and soft grunting sounds. This ceremonial display is thought to strengthen the bond between family members.
The status of male geese doesn't depend on individual size, but rather on the size of the family.
Males of larger, more close-knit families are generally more aggressive and higher in rank. Canada Geese mate for life, and will seek a new mate only when the original mate has died.
